Prompt: How confident do you feel about your ability to identify claims in a text? What was the easiest part of today's activity, and what did you find challenging? Explain how today's lesson helped you better understand the difference between a claim and other statements an author might make.

I feel pretty confident identifying claims in a text. The easiest part was finding the main point, but the hardest part was telling claims apart from facts. Today’s lesson helped me understand that a claim is something an author argues or believes, while other statements may just give information. I was absent so I cannot do the reflection or summary.

One time, a friend challenged my opinion about which soccer team was better. I explained my reasons and used examples of the players and how well the team played. We both shared our opinions, but neither of us completely changed our minds. I learned that it is important to listen to other people and respect their opinions, even when we disagree. today in class we took notes then I had to check out so I left class early. I learned effective note taking and about arguements.

Prompt: Describe a time when someone’s words had a lasting impact on you.

One time, someone told me that hard work pays off as long as I stay focused and never give up. Those words stuck with me because they reminded me that success takes time and effort. Since then, I have tried to keep working toward my goals, even when things get difficult. Today in class we did our blog post. I learned that hard work pays off.

Prompt: Today, you had the opportunity to express yourself through poetry. Reflect on your creative writing process. What did you find most enjoyable or challenging about turning your thoughts into a poem? Did this assignment change the way you think about poetry or creative writing? Explain your experience.

The most enjoyable part of writing a poem was being able to express my thoughts in my own words. The hardest part was finding the right words and making the poem flow well. This assignment helped me realize that poetry does not have to rhyme and can be used to express feelings and ideas in different ways. Overall, I enjoyed being creative and learned that poetry can be more personal than I thought. In class we wrote our poems and analyzed 2 themes and wrote an inspiration statement. I learned how to write and form a poem better and form my thoughts into rhyming stanzas.

Prompt: Write about a moment when you had to step out of your comfort zone.

One time I stepped out of my comfort zone was when I had to speak in front of my class. I felt nervous because I don't usually like having everyone look at me, but I pushed through it and did my best. This experience taught me that trying new things can help me become more confident and comfortable in situations that make me nervous. Today in class we did a worksheet on the poem and helped understand it better. I learned how to use the information I broke down to answer questions about the poem.
